Understanding your VoltValue Passport

What every field on your VoltValue Passport means, and why buyers and finance companies trust it.

What is a VoltValue Passport?

An independent, verifiable record of an EV battery's condition at the moment of issuance. Unlike a seller's claim or a screenshot, it connects directly to the vehicle via the official Tesla Fleet API and is locked at generation. Anyone can verify authenticity by scanning the QR code.

What each field means

Vehicle Identity

Model, year, color, odometer, and masked VIN (last 4 digits visible) — pulled live from Tesla at the moment of issuance.

Battery Type

Whether the battery is LFP or NMC chemistry, and the estimated usable pack size (e.g. ~57.5 kWh for Model Y Standard). LFP and NMC age differently, which affects long-term value. Note: chemistry is inferred from VIN and trim — confirm with Tesla Service for the official specification.

State of Health (SoH)

The core number: current battery capacity as a % of original. 100% = brand new. 85% = holds 85% of original range.

Calculated from a median of up to 180 daily readings — not a single snapshot — so it's stable and not affected by one bad day.

Fleet Ranking

How this battery compares to other VoltValue vehicles of the same model, year, and mileage band. "Top 14%" means healthier than 86% of comparable vehicles in our database.

Degradation Rate

Estimated annual battery wear (% per year). Lower is better. A typical Tesla degrades 1–3% per year under normal use.

Cycle Count

Only shown when BMS data is available (uploaded via Scan My Tesla or TeslaFi). Tesla's official API does not expose this number — if it's not shown, it simply means this data source wasn't available, not that cycles weren't tracked.

Charging Habits

Built from 180 days of daily telemetry:

  • Energy by source: home (AC) vs Supercharger (DC) split
  • Charge level distribution: % of days in Low (<20%), Gold (20–80%), or High (>80%) bands

The Gold zone (20–80%) is considered optimal for long-term battery health.

Days of Data

How many days of battery history we've collected for this vehicle. More days = more accurate result.

Warranty Expires

Tesla's battery warranty is 8 years from original delivery. When we have the exact delivery date, we show the precise expiry date. Otherwise we show "Est. [year] — confirm with manufacturer."
